Principal, CCO

Enthusiastic and an educator by nature, Mark’s professional style is both vibrant and purposeful. Apart from his Advisory and Board of Directors roles, Mark is BFG’s Principal, and spends a great deal of time & energy as Chief Economist on our Investment Committee. As an IRS Enrolled Agent for advanced tax planning knowledge, along with being a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and an Economist (St. Olaf College), Mark’s credentials along with more than two decades of experience yield an uncommonly knowledgeable planner. In fact, Mark was ranked the #1 Independent Financial Planner in the country under 40 for 2015 [Ranking by Rep. magazine / WealthManagement.com].

Mark has increasingly been invited to speak at local and national finance conferences, and spent 2 years hosting an FM radio show called ‘Smart Money’. In addition, Mark has been helping other financial advisors plan for continuity/succession of their practices for the purpose of protecting their clients, their families, and themselves from unforeseen events- as well as retirement.

On a personal level, Mark and his wife Jess have two children who love Ninja (like American Ninja Warrior) as their primary sport. Mark is keenly interested in keeping pace with technological progress (genetics, nanotechnology, and artificial intelligence) along with how these accelerating advances interplay with the world of finance.
